World Automotive Enthusiast and Cars News Update for Everyone

April 2016

WHAT constitutes the Mulsanne Speed edition? I’m used to manufacturers taking equipment out of their cars to make them lighter and faster, but Bentley’s Speed programme stuffs the Mulsanne with even more goodies and upgrades the limo’s performance and suspension at the same time.

There are new Speed-specific exterior colours while inside the cabin is a collection of the most exquisite materials. It starts with a two-tone theme and continues with the addition of the Mulliner Driving Specification, which includes fancy diamond quilted stitch lines on the leather upholstery to create the right contrast between light and dark hues. Even the headliner is in the finest leather. There are also Bentley emblems embroidered on all the seats.

Every cabin item that looks like metal or wood is the real thing, such as the gear lever and air-con outlets/adjusters. Look closer and you’ll also notice the gleaming metal alloy of the door handles and drilled pedals. All these items are cool to the touch, unlike the chromed plastic bits found in less
“authentic” cabins. Inside the Mulsanne, my nasal passages pick up a whiff of the deluxe leather draped generously throughout the regal interior. I smell “tree”, too, courtesy of the wood veneers stretched across the dashboard and doors.

These are solid blocks of wood, milled down to the requisite shapes and sizes, then varnished
to perfection. These are not printed plastic inserts in disguise. It’s all a bit old-school, but it
works brilliantly, creating the traditional ambience of a British luxury saloon.

The Mulsanne’s opulence is matched by the performance of its Speed engine, a 6.75-litre twin-turbo V8 with 530bhp of horsepower and 1100Nm of majestic torque. This isn’t a high-revving 8-cylinder. It does its best work at low revs, pulling away from traffic effortlessly and without any drama. The massive motor hauls the 2685kg behemoth from zero to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds.

With enough road, it can reach a scarcely believable 305km/h. In an indulgent limo like this, and in a place like the United Arab Emirates, where petrol is cheap, the Mulsanne Speed’s measures to improve effi ciency are perhaps redundant. But in any case, the Bentley has a respectable drag

ENGINE 6750cc, 32-valves, V8, turbocharged
MAX POWER 530bhp at 4200rpm
MAX TORQUE 1100Nm at 1750rpm
POWER TO WEIGHT 197.4bhp per tonne
GEARBOX 8-speed automatic
with manual select
0-100KM/H 4.9 seconds
TOP SPEED 305km/h
CONSUMPTION 6.8km/L (combined)
CO2 EMISSION 342g/km

$30k CEVS surcharge)

the coefficient of 0.33 and a cylinder deactivation system that turns its V8 into a temporary V4 during
the light-load operation, such as cruising with minimal throttle input. The V8-V4-V8 switchover is undetectable. Thanks to its improved efficiency, the Bentley is 13 percent more economical (or to
be more accurate, less thirsty) than before, which translates into an additional 80km on the road
from a full tank of fuel. Even so, returning 6.8km/L on average and 4.4km/L in urban
conditions isn’t exactly fuel efficient, and spewing 342g of CO2 per kilometre isn’t exactly
saving the planet.

In my experience, driving the Mulsanne Speed in a suitably speedy fashion would result in
mileage of around 3km per litre. Talking or thinking about the fuel economy of a high-performance
limousine is probably pointless. The point here is, well, high performance and the Mulsanne Speed delivers. It’s a big, heavy saloon with luxuries aplenty, yet it’s surprisingly agile, seemingly
shrinking in size as it negotiates corners. The driving controls are lightweight, but not to the point
of “lightening” my sense of the tarmac, steering and chassis. It isn’t a sports car by any stretch of the imagination, and it’s a far cry from the Continental GT Speed, but this automobile provides enough feel and possesses enough zeal for the driver to enjoy the drive.

It’s a highly refined drive, too, with the cabin so quiet and well-cocooned that 150km/h on the highway “sounds” like 100km/h. Bentley’s Mulsanne Speed is not a mindless Luxo-barge on steroids, and it’s not meant to be a chauffeur-driven ride for Mr Big on the backseat. It’s a speedy superluxury
saloon for Mr Quick in the driver’s seat.

Fifty years after the Shelby GT350-H was introduced, Ford Motor Company, Shelby American, and Hertz unveiled a special run of performance-modified 2016 Ford Mustang GTs named the Shelby GT-H that will be available for rent beginning Memorial Day weekend. As a throwback to the famed Shelby GT350-H "Rent-A-Racer" program of the 1960s, a total of 140 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H's will be available exclusively through the Hertz Adrenaline Collection at select airport locations in the continental United States.

"The 1966 Ford Shelby GT350-H became a legend from the moment it was introduced," said Joe Conway, Co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International and CEO of Shelby American. "Ten years ago, the 2006 Ford Shelby GT-H earned the same 'rock star' status when it was introduced at the New York Auto Show. We worked closely with Ford Performance to make the 2016 Shelby GT-H the most exciting Mustang ever to wear the iconic Hertz black and gold livery."

Fifty years ago, Carroll Shelby and Hertz saw an opportunity to put customers in the driver's seat of high-performance special edition Shelby's. Ford supplied the new Mustangs with V8 engines and mostly automatic transmissions; Shelby added extra performance and style and Hertz gave the public access to a unique driving experience through what was known then as its new "Rent-A-Racer" program. The companies repeated the same formula for the successful Ford Shelby GT-H program in 2006. Today, the story of the Shelby/Hertz "Rent-A-Racer" is legendary and the first two generation cars are among the most coveted by collectors worldwide.

Shelby American, Ford and Hertz repeated history to give the 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H a very classic, muscular look with additional performance capabilities.

"Our goal was to give everyone a chance to add some fun to their travel with a distinctive American pony car," said Doug White, Ford Performance Parts manager. "So Ford Performance and Shelby American sharpened the handling, improved the performance, sweetened the exhaust note and added distinctive Hertz styling to the Mustang.Anyone who rents a limited edition Ford Shelby GT-H will enjoy a very special driving experience."

The 2016 special edition Ford Shelby GT-H marks another Hertz car rental milestone in offering high-performance and specialty vehicles throughout the company's 98-year history, and today through its Adrenaline, Dream Cars, and Prestige collections.

"For nearly 100 years, understanding our customers' needs and interests has remained at the forefront of our business," said Matt Jauchius, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Hertz Global Holdings. "This special 50th-anniversary edition of the Ford Shelby GT-H not only underscores our commitment to deliver fun and personalized the rental experience, but it also has helped Hertz become the premium brand it is today. It's sure to be an exhilarating drive for anyone who has the chance to get behind the wheel of this one-of-a-kind ride."

As with the past two generations, the 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H is instantly recognizable with several styling enhancements that celebrate its heritage. Each Shelby GT-H will wear black exterior paint, set off with gold racing stripes, a hallmark of Hertz vehicles dating back to the 1920s.Shelby's traditional "Le Mans" dual racing stripes are combined with a set of rocker stripes that include special "Shelby GT-H" nomenclature. Each car will also wear a Hertz Edition emblem on the front fenders, and feature Hertz Shelby GT-H sill plates and a numbered badge.

Ford Performance is supplying a cat-back performance exhaust for that throaty sound that will make this car unmistakably a Shelby Mustang GT-H. To put all of the horsepowers to the ground, the Ford Shelby GT-H also comes with the Ford Racing Handling Pack, including special-tuned dampers, lowering springs, sway bars and a staggered wheel kit. The Shelby GT-H rides on 19-inch aluminum wheels wearing high-performance Michelin rubber.

To hint at the 5.0liter V8 engine's capabilities, the Ford Shelby GT-H is fitted with a unique Shelby-designed vented hood, carbon fiber front splitter and rear spoiler. Special badges appear in the front grille, rear faux gas cap and trunk lid. Inside, Shelby GT-H logos are on the head restraint, sill plates and floor mats.

Shelby American will build the cars at its assembly facility in Las Vegas. With total production expected to number only around 140 units exclusively destined for Hertz rental fleets across the country, this special-edition car will give Hertz customers a truly exclusive driving experience.

If the queue purchase the latest iPhone is already making people by surprise, this news probably makes people continued by surprise.

A new sedan from Tesla manufacturers - who are not even made in full - has ordered hundreds of thousands of units in just 24 hours.

Tesla already has a title as a successful electric car makers.

The success is not only a matter of sophistication but also the performance of the car equivalent of a sports car. With the price of an equivalent BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, Mercedes C-Class, and Lexus IS, those who pursue cutting the cost of gasoline would prefer this car.

Futuristic look, the least visible of the concept car,  acceleration 0-100 km / h in 6 seconds, has autopilot features, had a 5-star safety predicate, and supercharger

Tesla founder and chief executive Elon Musk say pre-orders of the firm's much-anticipated Model 3 electric car currently total 276,000.

The California-based firm unveiled the five-seater car - its lowest-cost vehicle to date - on Thursday.
Mr. Musk tweeted the total reflected the orders received by the end of Saturday.
Pre-orders of the Tesla Model 3 will not necessarily all translate into actual sales when the car is released, with first deliveries in late 2017.

It can be ordered in advance in dozens of countries, including the UK, Republic of Ireland, Brazil, India, China and New Zealand.

Potential car owners need to put down $1,000 deposits to reserve their vehicles. Such has been the interest that Mr Musk tweeted the company was "definitely going to need to rethink production planning".
