World Automotive Enthusiast and Cars News Update for Everyone

March 2016

Some ' giant ' technologies such as Google and Apple are intending to enliven the auto industry by developing the car. However, the Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn asserted, Google, Apple and other super rich technology companies should not be feared as a bully the automotive industry.

""There is a lot of talk about distractions, about new competitors that promises a new approach to the car. Much of this angst has resulted from the emergence of new technologies and the so-called mobility services, " Ghosn said

According to Ghosn, a giant technology like Apple and Google are now developing an autonomous car technology would not become automotive company. The reason, he said, automobile manufacturer profit is too small if compared to remain a technology company.

"I do not think we will get there," said Ghosn alluded to the possibility of Google or Apple as a new competitor in the automotive world.
Ghosn assured, technology companies that are now rich enough to buy a car brand if they choose to enter the automotive industry. "They've been able to do it," he said.
Instead, the technology company might choose to become a supplier of advanced technologies and solutions to automotive manufacturers that already exists.

"The three powers (electrification, technology autonomous and connectivity) will change our industry in ways we are only beginning to imagine. But rather than fear of interference, I believe our industry really had no choice but to accept it. I hope that the global auto industry saw more changes in the next five years, "he said.
Not afraid of technology companies, but Ghosn see this new competition as a healthy competition for the automotive industry in the future. "We learned a lot from them and they have much to learn from us," he said.

Lincoln revealed the all-new Lincoln Navigator Concept, introducing quiet luxury to full-size SUVs and offering a glimpse at what comes next for the brand's best-known nameplate.

"The all-new Navigator Concept reinforces our commitment to give every Lincoln client what we call quiet luxury - vehicles and experiences that are elegant, effortlessly powerful and serene," said Kumar Galhotra, president of Lincoln. "This kind of quiet luxury sets Lincoln apart. Now, we're showing fans of large SUVs how we can exceed their expectations, without being the loudest statement on the road."

Lincoln invented the large luxury SUV in 1997, and now is reimagining Navigator for modern clients interested in better performance, more space and further refinement.

Lincoln's design team drew inspiration from luxury sailboats and yachts when designing the new concept. This influenced everything from the clean, modern lines and Storm Blue paint on the exterior that mimics the grays and blues of sea and sky, to the teak finishes, custom gear and wardrobe management system found inside.

Go-anywhere performance

The Lincoln Navigator Concept is engineered to provide drivers peace of mind. It features a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine delivering more than 400 horsepower and smart new technologies to make this SUV even more sure-footed on different road surfaces and in changing weather conditions.

Drivers can choose several drive modes to improve ride and handling and to find the drive experience that best suits their mood - including steering, suspension and noise levels. Each mode is accompanied by a matching digital animation in the cluster.

Personal sanctuary

Lincoln Navigator Concept provides the nameplate's most spacious interior ever - a key want among buyers of large SUVs - delivered with a refinement that leapfrogs competitors.

The leather-wrapped interior is rendered in a light blue. Six Lincoln-patented Perfect Position Seats adjust 30 ways to best support occupants' different body types. The driver's seat, for instance, includes independent deployable thigh supports for maximum comfort.

A custom wardrobe management system holds gear chosen for a day on the water, while Lincoln's Revel audio system has been specifically tuned to create the highest level sound and visual quality.

All of this is accessed through power gullwing doors and deployable concertina steps. A special lighting sequence welcomes passengers for every journey - a signature Lincoln feature.

Easier, more connected driving, thanks to new technology

The Lincoln Navigator Concept features Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, which uses radar and camera technology to scan the road ahead. If a collision risk with a vehicle or pedestrian is detected, the system provides a warning to the driver. If the driver does not respond in time, it automatically can apply up to full braking force to help reduce the severity of, or even eliminate, some frontal collisions.

Pre-Collision Assist can help drivers avoid rear end collisions with other vehicles at all speeds, while Pedestrian Detection can help the driver avoid pedestrians at lower speeds. Both systems can reduce the severity of forward collisions, or even prevent certain forward collisions.

A 360-degree camera and enhanced park assist features take the stress out of parking, exiting a parking spot and maneuvering. The system seamlessly integrates views from four cameras - creating an overhead image that allows drivers to see all around the vehicle.

On the road, a lane-keeping system vibrates the steering wheel to alert drivers they are straying from their lane and provides mild steering input to encourage them to steer back toward the center of the lane.

In the cabin, head restraint monitors provide passengers Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing them to wirelessly share music and content from personal devices.

For drivers, a large panel screen clearly displays key information. The display can be customized from a digital touch screen housed in the center stack.

Honda Motor Co. Ltd. develops alcohol detector prototype that can be viewed from the driver's alcohol level breath.

Reporting from Honda's official website on Friday (03/25/2016), the tool is a joint project between Honda with Hitachi. The goal is to prevent or stop a drunk driver while driving.

The alcohol detectors can be brought everywhere and shaped like a portable or mobile. In addition, Honda and Hitachi-made detectors also include sensors that can detect and measure the levels of alcohol users. Within three seconds, the levels of alcohol can already be detected.

Results on the portable detectors will be recorded and entered into the system of car engine. If the detected levels of alcohol exceeds the limit, then the indicator will give a warning on the display panel of the car. This detector tool will be presented at the SAE World Congress, which took place from 12 to 14 April 1999 in Detroit, United States.

Alcohol detector tool has been widely used in some countries. Like in Japan, to see the driver's alcohol levels conducted by transport operators by using alcohol detector. The tool is used for professional drivers before they do the job.

United States (NHTSA) also do the same. They have launched interlock technology to connect the detector alcohol in the vehicle's engine

Nissan unveiled the new 2017 GT-R at the 2016 New York International Auto Show, highlighted by a fresh look inside and out, as well as major driving performance enhancements and key new features. All told, this is the most significant change to Nissan's flagship super sports car since it was introduced in 2007.

The 2017 GT-R's exterior receives a thorough makeover. The new "V-motion" grille, one of Nissan's latest design signatures, has been slightly enlarged to provide better engine cooling and now features a matte chrome finish and an updated mesh pattern. A new hood, featuring pronounced character lines flowing flawlessly from the grille, has been reinforced to enhance stability during high-speed driving. A freshly designed front spoiler lip and front bumpers with finishers situated immediately below the headlamps give the new GT-R the look of a pure-bred racecar, while generating high levels of front downforce.

The Nissan GT-R's familiar wind-cutting shape defines its profile, but the side sills have been pushed out to direct air flow around the vehicle. Styling and air flow enhancements continue in the rear, where GT-R's hallmark four-ring taillights are paired with new rear bodywork, along with functional side air vents next to the quad exhaust tips. The beltline between the lower black section and the body panel has been heightened to make the car look wider and more aggressive from the rear.

These exterior changes result in a sportier and sharper looking car - as well as an aerodynamically efficient one with more stability at high speeds, while keeping a 0.26 drag coefficient.

In the cabin is a redesigned, premium interior befitting a high-performance super sports car. The entire dashboard is new, including an instrument panel wrapped in a single, seamless piece of hand-selected Nappa leather artfully stitched with Takumi-style precision. The shape of the dashboard adopts a "horizontal flow" to deliver a sense of high stability for front seat occupants, while the line from the instrument cluster to the center console provides a distinct driver-oriented environment for the driver. The cushion layer of the instrument panel leather has been updated with a new, thinner material to reduce weight, and the front seats themselves are also lighter, thanks to a new side-support construction method that provides greater comfort and support on long drives.

The center dashboard layout is improved and simplified. Integrated navigation and audio controls reduce the number of switches from 27 in the previous car to just 11 in the 2017 model. An 8-inch capacitive touch-panel monitor replaces the 7-inch one and now features large icons on the display screen, while a new Display Command control on the carbon-fiber center console also allows easy operation.

The shift paddles are now mounted to the new steering wheel, allowing drivers to change gears in mid-turn without having to take their hands off the wheel. The paddles, paired with reengineered ventilator controls, feature improved feel and sound when engaged or adjusted.

"As the icon of Nissan's driving performance, the GT-R continues to evolve. With the signature V-motion grille, the GT-R now possesses the latest Nissan design language. Its exceptional aerodynamic performance and upgraded interior have given the GT-R a more mature character, which will continue into the future," said Mamoru Aoki, executive design director, Global Design Center, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.

The Nissan GT-R's award-winning 3.8-liter V6 24-valve twin-turbocharged engine - each unit handcrafted by its own Takumi technician - now delivers 565 horsepower at 6800 rpm and 467 lb-ft of torque, representing an increase of 20 HP and 4 lb-ft, respectively, from last year's model.

The increases, which are the result of individual ignition-timing control of the cylinders and extra boost from the turbochargers, allow the new GT-R to possess superior acceleration in the mid- to high-ranges (3200 rpm and above). It comes mated to a thoroughly refined 6-speed dual-clutch transmission that features smoother shifts and less noise. The aggressive GT-R engine sound has never sounded better. The resonance of the new lightweight titanium exhaust system and Active Sound Enhancement (ASE) enhance the driving experience, especially during acceleration.

The Nissan GT-R has always been regarded as one of the world's best handling machines and for 2017 its cornering abilities have become even better. A more rigid body structure and new suspension allow the GT-R's tires, wrapped around new 20-inch 15-spoke forged aluminum wheels, to hold the road surface better, giving it better stability through quick lateral transitions and higher overall cornering speed.

Along with all the performance enhancements, the 2017 GT-R is the most comfortable example to date, with a new sense of elegance and civility rare in such a high-performance supercar. The new GT-R exhibits a smoother ride quality than the outgoing model, and its cabin remains much quieter at all speeds thanks to Active Noise Cancellation technology and new sound absorption materials, including an acoustic glass windshield.

"The new GT-R delivers a heart-pounding driving experience at all times, on any road, for whoever sits in the driver's seat. We have continued to push its performance boundaries to the limit - it's even more potent than before. At the same time, refinement has been added to take the driving experience to an entirely new level. We're proud to bring you what we feel is the ultimate GT-R that possesses amazing performance, newfound civility and a rich racing history," said Hiroshi Tamura, chief product specialist, GT-R, Z and NISMO, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.

New for the 2017 GT-R are fresh colors inside and out that complement the car's sophisticated character. A "Blaze Metallic" orange color, applied with a special four stage process, has been added to the exterior paint palette. The interior of the Premium Edition, featuring semi-aniline leather, offers three different options: the newly added Rakuda Tan, as well as Amber Red and Ivory.

In select markets, the new GT-R comes with NissanConnectSM with Navigation, Mobile Apps and Services that allows users to use a smartphone to remotely lock or unlock the car doors, activate the alarm, summon emergency services or track the car if it is stolen.

The 2017 Nissan GT-R will be available starting summer 2016.

Ingolstadt-Audi Motor Sport race car has introduced the R18 in the race FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the Le Mans 24 hours. This car be hotshot Audi in the 2016 season.

In a statement, Audi says, the R18 was redesigned from scratch and almost nothing in common with its predecessor. Audi has been focusing on fuel efficiency to meet FIA regulations of the WEC.

Thanks to the new regulation, car racing required fuel consuming ten percent less than before.

To that end, Audi change direction with a hybrid system of 1000 horsepower on this car. Audi race car uses a lithium-ion accumulator as hybrid energy storage systems.

A system called Motor Generator Unit (MGU) located in the front axle produce energy and change the movement of the front wheels into electrical energy when the driver braked.

In addition to the side of performance, Audi also improve in terms of aerodynamics as on front piece. The air flow is directed to the top of the car and between the wheels, cooling channels, entering through the body shell. At the rear, the air out through the diffusor to produce downforce.

All the improvements it has made better fuel efficiency to 32.4 percent compared to first generation in 2011. Audi is now using the turbo is lighter and more efficient.

Overall concept clearly more efficient

The efficiency increases of the race car are remarkable in a historic comparison. The current V6 TDI consumes 32.4 percent less fuel than the first generation did in 2011. This progress is even more substantial in a comparison with the original year of 2006. Back then, Audi used TDI technology for the first time. Thanks to this technology, the brand with the four rings has since clinched eight victories, a distance record, plus two world championship titles. Today, Audi's LMP1 race car with the current engine uses 46.4 percent less fuel at Le Mans. Still, it achieves lap times that are ten to 15 seconds better than a decade ago. All of this is possible thanks to the sum of all the advances that have been made in the areas of aerodynamics, lightweight design and the powertrain.

Distinctive safety

In terms of safety, the LMP1 race cars will continue to set standards in the future as well. Audi complements the exacting requirements of the regulations by in-house research that far exceeds these rules. In the field of active safety - in other words the detection of hazards and accident prevention - the Audi drivers can draw on a wealth of tools. While the driver information monitor in the cockpit to display race control flag signals is prescribed, Audi assists its drivers with a number of additional solutions. For instance, Matrix LED headlights combined with Audi laser light optimize the light beam of the race cars that can reach speeds of up to 340 km/h. Since 2015, Audi customers have been able to order laser light in the second generation of the Audi R8 as well. Matrix LED technology has been making its way into a growing number of model ranges.

Particularly good rearward vision is provided by a lightweight and energy-efficient camera system in combination with an ultramodern AMOLED screen that serves as a digital rear view mirror. Since the 2001 season, the drivers and pit crews have been keeping their eye on tire inflation pressure using a tire pressure monitoring system. And, last but not least, the Audi R18 automatically controls brake force distribution with respect to the hybrid system in the respective operating condition.

In the event that an accident cannot be avoided, the passive safety systems take effect. The monocoque consists of a high-strength CFRP structure with an aluminum honeycomb core and has a front crash nose for energy absorption. In 2011, Audi was the first manufacturer to use a single-piece monocoque. The cell has been provided with additional side impact protection, as Zylon layers integrated into the cockpit walls prevent the intrusion of objects. In rear-end collisions a CFRP structure at the transmission absorbs the impact energy. Double wheel tethers have been successfully used since the 2014 season and reduce the risk of wheels separating from the race cars in accidents. Due to their rotary motion, wheels have high levels of kinetic energy. The high-voltage protection systems ensure that the electrical currents in the hybrid system can be safely controlled. There is no other motorsport discipline that uses an equal amount of high technology to protect the driver before or during an accident.

Be it in terms of the performance capabilities and safety of the race cars or the furthering of efficiency and innovations: in the sum of all technological features, the LMP1 class remains unique around the globe and therefore of utmost relevance for the future of the automobile.
