In an interview with Danish TV, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that Tesla's next generation has a much greater distances than the current model about 620 miles or more than 350 miles over the Model most potent S on sale today - will arrive in 2017 at the most latest.
However, Musk has not confirmed which model is first able to cover a distance of over 600 miles. Tesla lineup currently consists of one car, but it will cover at least a variant (Tesla Model S, the Model X and Model 3) in 2017 if everything goes according to plan.
Musk added that the distance can be extended by about 5-10 percent per year, which means Tesla will theoretically capable of striking distance of nearly 750 miles on a charge in 2020.
The company's autonomous steering technology is currently being fine-tuned by a team of carefully-selected beta testers, and it will be released to the general public next month. However, the technology only works on the highway and on "relatively simple" roads where the lanes are clearly marked.
Musk ensure that Tesla fully autonomous capable of driving themselves on all models of the way without any input from the driver will be ready in about three years. However, he also cautioned that it would take one to three years after that for the government to allow the self-driving car sales to the general public, this means consumers expect to see an autonomous Tesla is 2019, which competes head to head with Apple car.
