The Lexus LX 570 is a full-size luxury sport utility vehicle and is a quite popular and competes with the Nissan Patrol, new Cadillac Escalade, refreshed Lincoln Navigator, Infiniti QX80, Audi Q7, Land Rover Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz GL-Class.
The last major redesign for Toyota’s luxury arm Lexus LX570 large SUV was in 2008 and a major overhaul was overdue considering the activity in the segment. Finally, that has happened.
Lexus showed the new LX570 ahead of the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance in California last month. The incoming model comes in as a major refresh and carries over very few parts from its predecessor like door panels and the roof.
The styling of the SUV, takes advantage of the current Lexus design DNA and hence the incoming model will wear the corporate single piece spindle grille, newly design rear tail lamps, and front and rear bumpers in its now familiar silhoutte.
Apart from the cosmetic upgrades, the bigger news lies under the mass of sheet metal and glass. The eight-seater luxury off-roader also gets its transmission upgraded from six to eight speeds. The
incoming car will also now get some driver-oriented kits like the Drive Mode Select system for drive train and adaptive suspension adjustments on- and off-road. The 5.7-litre V8 will continue to power the car, but it also gets a bump in output.
US figures show 282kW and 546Nm, which would be a jump of 12kW and 16Nm over the current model respectively. The 4WD system remains full-time, with a Torsen lockable centre diff running 40:60 front and rear in most driving situations, with the ability to tailor the drive line via Drive Mode Select.
From the marketing perspective, the LX570 will be offered in one model variant. To add variety, optional upgrade packages will also be available. New features that will be made available will include head up display, a centre dash display screen upgrade and a panoramic view monitor for the driver.
Meanwhile, the infotainment system screen upgrade spearheads a major interior makeover, with a massive 12.3in screen and the brand’s staple remote touch interface being engaged for controlling most of its functions. Audio boffins will appreciate the fact that the surround speaker count will remain unchanged at 19 and inputs will be fed by the car’s factory installed 450-watt Mark
Levinson Surround Sound set-up.
Application of LED lighting technology sees a big boost. LED lighting illuminates the cabin and load area, controlled by touch-sensitive switch gear, with larger [11.6in up from the current 7.0in] rear TFT screens for the rear entertainment system and manual side sunshades to keep the TV screens visible for the rear occupants.
Wireless charging for Qi-compatible mobile phones, a three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel and the option of ventilation and heating for the rear seats which are fitted with their own climate controls and USB inputs are also on the incoming car’s specification sheet.
Safety systems have also been update and will now include ten airbags as part of the Safety System + that adds the accident prep Pre-Collision System, lane-departure warning, auto high beam
and radar adaptive cruise control, as well as blind spot warning and tyre pressure monitoring.
