The car was released in early August. At that time, Toyota expects to sell 1,000 units until the end of 2015, Mirai booking already 2 times the target,
"The number of Toyota Mirai reservations exceeded the initial plan, we will increase production capacity to meet the high demand," Toyota said in a statement.
Toyota will increase Mirai production capacity at the beginning of the year. Due to the high demand not only come from America but also worldwide.
Toyota plans to deliver 3,000 Mirai sedans in the U.S. by the end of 2017. The very first Mirai for the U.S. has already been spoken for, though.
That build slot was auctioned off for charity last fall--before Toyota had even revealed the "Mirai" name. Subsequent customers will pay a sticker price of $57,500, though most are expected to lease rather than buy outright.
Toyota said it expects nine out of 10 customers to opt for the $499 monthly lease (with a $3,469 down payment).
