Lexus present at the Tokyo Motor Show 2015 a new concept LF-CF, which seems to prefigure the replacement for the LS, in the guise of a large four-door coupe embedding a fuel cell.
Lexus has a habit of presenting us on most salons of new concepts and in most cases, they prefigure production models or at least fairly concrete stylistic drafts. We can recall the particular LF-CC and LF-NX concepts that have recently resulted in IS sedan and a very innovative NX SUV by their design. Regarding the concept LF-FC before us today, it seems that we are in the presence of an outline of the future fifth generation LS.
"Lexus wants to surprise and evoke emotion with its distinctive design and forward-thinking technology. For us, it is more than just a car, and we should exceed conventional imagination. The LF-FC expresses our progressive luxury and high-tech vision of a not so distant future," said Tokuo Fukuichi, Lexus International President.
5,30m long, this concept is 21 cm longer than the current LS and even surpasses 3 cm an Audi A8 long version. With a silhouette of large four-door coupe, the profile of the car is similar to that of a stretched IS and sharper. The trapezoidal grille takes the well known here but looks even bigger than usual, with a steeper slope. The rear lights also surprise by their drawing, stretching to the bottom of the shield.
While there is generally accustomed to discover hybrid engines under the hood of the Lexus LF-CF this concept embeds a hydrogen engine, powered by a fuel cell. But unlike the Toyota Mirai, the limo has a full transmission, plus a main engine that powers the rear axle, two small motors integrated to the front wheels. Still, it seems unlikely that this pioneering solution is maintained on the LS Series, which should be content with a more conventional hybrid, with which the current model makes most of its sales.
New technologies such a gesture recognition system, like the recent BMW 7 Series, are also part of the innovations of this concept. But when is the production version of the LF-CF will be presented us, knowing that the current LS will celebrate its 10-year career in 2016. Nevertheless, if the new LS maintains a design close to this concept it may well become the sexiest limousines in the market.
