Volvo has announced it's return to WTCC season at 2016. The Swedish manufacturer hopes to fight for the title, even if it's has little shone in the past.
Citroën could finally have a serious contender next season. Volvo, already present in 2011 and 2012, announced it's return to the championship. The car will be the Volvo S60 Polestar TC1. The commitment will be via the Polestar preparer linked to Volvo since 1996 and bought by the manufacturer in July.
"We chose the FIA WTCC program such international motorsport platform because it highlights the advanced engineering of our cars in races among the most exciting in the world, "says Niels Möller, President and COO Polestar. "This championship allows us to further develop our technology and to use all the technical race circuits, to refine our products and satisfy our customers looking for performance. "
Volvo has made some performance in the WTCC from 2007 to 2010 through its Swedish subsidiary present in STCC, the national championship, with commitment in 2011 and 2012, with a fourth place as best result. Appearances have been made in 2013.

Volvo's aim is to be present several seasons: "We have great respect for our task and we will fully engage them," said Christian Dahl, CEO of Cyan Racing. "This is a long term effort and we enjoy an extensive program of tests and learning that will take place this winter and will run parallel to our first season in the WTCC in 2016."
The drivers have not yet been chosen.
