As proclaimed BBC, Friday (10/02/2015), to develop an autonomous car is GM holding companies from Israel, Mobileye, a software development company.
This move is a response to competition with other car brands such as Tesla and Google, which is more advanced and well established in terms of advanced technology autonomous car.
But GM is optimistic with their experience in the automotive industry will provide an advantage in developing autonomous (self-driving) car technology.
"Nobody would have been able to overcome all the challenges in this technology," said Vice President of GM Mike Abelson.
GM's autonomous hybrid cars will be a part of a car-sharing service for its employees. In the meantime, the autonomous car used by GM employees to drive around the training facility GM's Warren Technical Center.
It said GM employees can call Chevrolet Volt through car-sharing application, then just choose the destination. Furthermore, the Chevrolet Volt will run itself without the help of a driver to a selected destination in the surrounding area testing facility.
"This program serves as a laboratory rapid development to provide data and a trip to accelerate the company's technical capabilities in autonomous vehicles," said GM in a statement.
In addition to developing Chevy Volt self-driving , GM also announced technology "Super Cruise" could be available in 2017. Cadillac models CT6 semi-autonomous technology it would take over the steering and braking while driving on the freeway or in heavy traffic.
